Something to get the weekend started.

December 11, 2009

No updates on the truck or the bike. But I got’s some music!

Rollin’ and Tumblin’ is probably one of those blues standards that every self proclaimed blues guitarist tries to attempt. but only a few make it interesting.

Let’s start with possibly the most famous singer of the song, Muddy Waters.

And then a newer version with Jeff Beck and Imogen Heap. This version is just rowdy. I dig it.

Anyway. Enjoy your weekend and I’ll be back soon.

Shroom – an excellent Friday selection.

I don’t think that there is anything Muddy did that someone else did better.

The Beck/Heap cover does show two things, however… 1) Imogen Heap is gloriously bonkers and 2) Jeff Beck really knows how to create a powerful guitar groove, even though he has never made a fuss about being a “guitar hero”.

The sad thing is that the sound mix on the European TV broadcast and the European DVD is so poor that the real star of show – the bass player – can barely be heard at all. A shame, as she is seriously good.

Anyway – it was good to have some proper music laid out for me, having just got back from an evening spent with work colleagues in dreadful city-centre bars where the only music was badly-amplified Euro-pop aimed at teenagers.

    Cheers, Shroom 🙂

Gotta agree with you about both Muddy Waters and the Beck/Heap mix.

That bassist is something else. I had never heard of Tal Wilkenfield before that clip, but I went and did some YouTube hunting on her. All I can say is Wow!

Guess I know who else to my list of stuff to put on here.
